Collapse ▲Did you want to know more about preserving food and saving what is available now to eat throughout the winter and later months? These classes are for you.
We will be doing two classes at the Marion Library in the next few weeks. So make your plans now to attend.
Food Preservation Made Easy.
September 30th one from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and a repeat at 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The Fall Harvest of Apples and other produce is in full swing. Come learn how storing and preserving the fall produce extends the bounty so you can enjoy them throughout the year. There are many methods of preserving vegetables and fruits-some easy and some a bit more involved. We will focus most on the boiling water bath canning and pressure canning, but will touch on dehydrating and freezing as well during this 1 1/2 hour class. This is free and no registration is needed. Choose the time that works best for you (no need to attend both, unless you want to!).
The next week we will have hands on classes where we will make Sauerkraut.
Hands On Sauerkraut
October 7th one from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and a repeat at 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Fermentation is one of the oldest forms of food preservation.
Come learn more about how it works to preserve our food while starting a jar of Sauerkraut made from fresh cabbage.
The class size is limited so you must register a head of time by calling North Carolina Cooperative Extension, McDowell County Center at (828) 652-8104.
Choose the time that works best for you
There is no cost but again registration is required due to limited spaces.
If you can’t make these classes, you can always call our office for information and to talk with Cathy Hohenstein, our FCS agent.
