Farmers First Connect. Recover. Grow

A Field Day Designed for Farmers, By Farmers

This fall, McDowell County farmers are invited to come together for Farmers First: Connect. Recover. Grow. — a one-day field day dedicated to helping producers recover and rebuild from the lasting impacts of Hurricane Helene.

The storm left behind challenges that many farms are still navigating today — from damaged pastures and eroded fields to broken infrastructure and financial setbacks. While resources and assistance are available, it’s not always clear how to access them. That’s why this field day was created: to put solutions, demonstrations, and support directly into the hands of our farming community.

Hosted at 188 Ag Services Drive, Marion, NC, on September 26th, the Farmers First field day will bring together experts, agencies, and hands-on demonstrations to help you find practical tools for recovery and growth. Whether you’re working through storm recovery hurdles or looking for new ideas to strengthen your farm, this event is built for you.

What Farmers Can Expect:

  • Hands-On Learning – Talk directly with NCDA&CS, Farm Bureau and Extension specialists about emergency planning, crop or cattle insurance, loans pasture recovery, and soil health.

  • Educational Opportunities – Learn from experts about managing farm stress.

  • Farmer Health & Support – Connect with the Agromedicine Institute for wellness resources and visit local ag groups like the NC Farm Bureau.

  • Food & Networking – Enjoy a free meal and plenty of time to share experiences with fellow farmers.

Why Attend?

Farming is more than just work — it’s a way of life. The Farmers First field day ensures no farmer has to face recovery alone. You’ll leave with new contacts, practical solutions, and confidence to move your operation forward. Plus, every attendee will have the chance to win great door prizes and giveaways, including Tractor Supply gift cards, tool sets, and more.

Farmers First is more than a field day — it’s a community coming together to support its producers. Whether you need technical advice, financial help, or just the chance to connect with people who understand, this day is for you.

Mark your calendars for September 26th and join us at Farmers First: Connect. Recover. Grow. Together, we’ll rebuild, restore, and prepare for the future of McDowell County agriculture.

You can pre-register online through Eventbrite to secure your door prize.
