Visit NC Farms Do you have an appreciation for farming and rural life? Do you want to know where to find fresh, local produce? Want to know where to go to learn about agriculture? There is a new app for McDowell County locals and visitors that contains all this information.

The Visit NC Farms app, available for both Apple and Android devices, was developed by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and launched in McDowell County in June. On behalf of agricultural operations across McDowell, Rutherford and Polk counties, the McDowell County Tourism Development Authority, Rutherford County Tourism Development Authority, in partnership with North Carolina Cooperative Extension in McDowell and Rutherford, and Polk Agricultural Economic Development, has helped to launch McDowell County’s presence on the app. McDowell County listings include farms, farmers market, and even farms for wedding venues.

The NC Dept. of Agriculture & Consumer Services describes the application to promote farms and fisheries, farmers markets, local food and drink, farm lodging, value added products, farm to-table restaurants, roadside stands, and special events to residents and visitors. The application also helps farmers strengthen consumer awareness and connection to local food as well as highlight products that are grown, raised, caught, made, and experienced on farms across the state.

It’s FREE to be listed. If you would like to be listed on the app, please contact Molly Sandfoss at 828-652-8104 or Molly_Sandfoss@ncsu.edu. For more information or to download the application, visit the Apple or Android store on your phone and search “Visit NC Farms”. For more information on the application visit VisitNCFarmsToday.com.
