America Recycles Day

Celebrate America recycles day by taking the pledge to recycle. Every resident of McDowell County has the opportunity to recycle by visiting one of our 7 Convenience Sites. Use the McDowell County website to find the one close to your home or business. The Convenience Sites accept both household trash and recycles. Here are some tips to help:

  1. The orange dumpsters at our sites are for paper, plastic, & metal recycling. These make it easier for residents to sort their recycling materials.
  2. Rinse and separate glass into 3 colors: brown, green, and clear
  3. Corrugated (aka cardboard) is recycled separate
  4. Please don’t put any plastic bags into the orange bins. Unfortunately we are unable to accept plastic bags at this time.
  5. Large metal items can be recycled at the NC 226 South Convenience center
  6. Tv’s, computers, and other electronic can be recycled, please visit the McDowell County Public Works for drop off.
  7. Tires can be recycled. please visit the McDowell County Public Works for drop off. Every resident can drop off their first 5 tires per year for free!
  8. Green dumpster are for bagged household trash and are free to McDowell County residents.
  9. Residents of McDowell County may take larger loads to the transfer stations on NC 226 South for $5 per load.
