Are you a farmer interested in expanding your markets?  When marketing fresh fruits and vegetables, understanding the processes affecting product quality during storage is essential in obtaining a premium price for the product.

To assist new or experienced growers in developing skills that will provide a competitive advantage within the fresh produce market, N.C. Cooperative Extension-McDowell County Center is offering a Postharvest Handling & Grading Workshop.  The workshop will be held, Monday, April 25, 6 p.m. at the McDowell Senior Center, 100 Spaulding Road, Marion, 28752.

Participants will learn approaches to maintain product quality and extend shelf-life, limiting postharvest disorders and loss of sales.  This workshop is geared toward assisting growers with market expansion.  This workshop will be lecture with hands-on demonstrations.

The workshop will be conducted by Craig Mauney, Area Specialized Agent, Commercial Fruits and Vegetables.  The workshop is FREE, but please register so that we can plan for materials.
