We are excited to introduce our newest addition to the N.C. Cooperative Extension McDowell County team, our summer intern Jocelyn Childres. Bringing a fresh perspective and a passion for community engagement, our intern will be working closely with our staff to support video projects that bring us into the 21st century.

North Carolina State Extension offers summer internships to students enrolled in a 4-year accredited college or University. They also must be enrolled in a course of study relevant to Extension along with other qualifications. The Extension Summer Internship program has been successful since its start in 2014. This program provides a mutually beneficial experience for students to gain hands-on experience while allowing Cooperative Extension Centers to expand their programming.

N.C. Cooperative Extension- McDowell County Center is quite happy to participate in this program for 2024.  This summer, our intern will be playing a pivotal role in producing a series of engaging videos that highlight the essential services and programs offered by the N.C. Cooperative Extension-McDowell Center.  These videos aim to showcase how the Extension supports local agriculture, community development, and family well-being, while also demonstrating the positive impact of 4-H on youth through hands-on learning experiences. By creatively capturing these stories, our intern will help raise awareness and illustrate the valuable contributions these programs make to our community.

Jocelyn is a senior at Western Carolina University pursuing a double major in Business Management and Marketing. "I was a member of the McDowell 4-H and Shooting Sports Program for seven years. This summer I have the privilege to intern with the N.C. Cooperative Extension for McDowell County and learn about the impact they make in our community and 4-H youth."
