July Hands on Canning Classes Are Here!

Canning season is here and whether you are new to canning or just want to brush up on the latest inforamtion, Hands-On classes can be fun!  They offer you a chance to learn more about canning or just get the latest information in a relaxed way while practicing the steps needed to safely preserve your food for later in the year.  Recommendations can change over time and some of our older recipes or ways to preserve foods may not be considered as safe anymore.  Here are some classes coming up in July.  Space is limited so register now!  All Classes will be at the Glenwood Baptist Church.  155 Glenwood Baptist Church Rd Marion NC 28752

It’s Pickle Time!   


Tuesday July 8th


10am to 2pm

Pickles are a way of making some of our low acid vegetables into a high acid product which is safe to preserve using a water bath canner. Join us as we learn more about pickles, relishes and other acidified foods. Cost $10. Please register and pay before 7/7/2025 to secure your spot. 

Canning Beans Safely! 


Tuesday, July 15th


10am to 2pm

One of the most popular foods to can is beans, but it can also be one of the riskiest to eat if not canned safely. Come, can beans together with us and learn the latest recommendations for canning your beans to use later in those wintertime casseroles. This class will cover using weighted and gauge pressure canners as well as discuss the importance of adjusting pressure for canning at higher altitudes. Cost $10. Please register and pay before 7/11/25 to secure your spot. 

Putting Tomatoes By!     


Thursday, July 24th


10am to 2pm

One of the best foods for learning how to can is tomatoes. In this hands-on class we cover canning tomatoes with a water bath canner and a pressure canner. Because we cover both methods of canning, this class allows you to experience both techniques. We will also discuss freezing and dehydrating tomatoes as other options for preserving them for future use. Cost $10. Please register and pay before 8/21/25 to secure your spot.
