Do you sell produce or other products by weight? If so, this free opportunity is for you!
Scale Certification Opportunity for Market Vendors
A Scale Technician from N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (NCDA&CS) will be certifying scales for 2025 on Tuesday, April 29 at N.C. Cooperative Extension-McDowell Center. This service is FREE! You may drop off your scale any time the week prior to the County Services Building, 60 East Court Street, Marion, 2nd Floor. You may pick up your scale anytime April 30-May 2.
Those that sell produce and other items by weights must have their scales certified annually. Scales need to be NTEP approved to be legal for use in NC to comply with laws dictated by the NCDA&CS. The Measurements Section of the NCDA&CS, among other duties, inspects weighing and measuring devices for accuracy (scales, scanners, motor fuel dispensers, fuel oil meters, and many other devices). Look the next time you are pumping gas.
Please attach a sticky note--We will have sticky notes available--to each scale that you want certified with the following information:- County you live/farm in
