On Saturday, August 14, 2021, North Carolina 4-H held their Western Regional 4-H Shooting Sports Tournament at Polk County Gun Club in Columbus, North Carolina. 11 McDowell County 4-H'ers competed against 150 other 4-H'ers from all around Western North Carolina in Archery, Shotgun, and .22 rifle.
Juniors (8-13 years old) from McDowell finished tied for 3rd place in shotgun, 1st place in Rifle Open Sight, and 3rd place in Archery Compound. Daniel McManus finished 2nd overall in Archery and Logan Crisp finished 1st overall in Rifle Open Sight. Competing were Logan Crisp, Daniel McManus, Garrison Dietrich, Ethan Laws, Graham Lytle, and Greyson Kellogg.
Seniors (14-18 years old) competed also competed in Archery, .22 Rifle, and Shotgun. McDowell placed 3rd in team Archery with Jocelyn Childres, Chloe Lytle, and Ben Mast. Jocelyn Childres placed 3rd overall. Gunner Dietrich placed 1st in individual shotgun and .22 Scope rifle. Ben Mast placed 2nd in individual Open Sight Rifle.
The Young Guns will next compete at the NC 4-H State Shooting Sports Tournament to be held on October 9 in Ellerbe, North Carolina. Congratulations and best of luck to all of the competitors!
