Great American Clean Up Kickoff Training

litter crew ahead

The Great American Clean Up runs from March 21st to June 22nd. Volunteers from all across the county organize under the Keep America Beautiful banner to remove litter from their neighborhoods and make their part of America clean and green. Here in McDowell County we provide Trash bags, grabbers, gloves, safety vests, and assist with safety training, trash removal and organization of events to maximize our impact. Whether you are an individual wanting to clean up your street, a member of an organization wanting to clean a trail or creek, or somewhere in between we are here to support you in your mission.

Join us for volunteer training to learn about safety and best practices for conducting roadside, trail and creek cleanups.

When:10 am Thursday, March 21, 2024

NC Department of Transportation runs the Adopt-A-Highway program and has fantastic resources to help volunteers stay safe while removing litter from the roadside.

The City of Marion in partnership with Keep McDowell Beautiful coordinates the Adopt-A-Street program, modeled after the NCDOT and other high-quality programs across the country.

If you are a leader of volunteers this training will help you organize your people, request free supplies from the State, County, or City, and report your clean up for the proper people to pick it up in a timely manner. If your a volunteer on a clean up this training will help you identify potentially dangerous situations, and teach you what to do to keep your people safe.

If you're unable to walk the roadside and pick up trash, this training will help you to be involved as a volunteer driver, volunteer recruiter, or in event promotion. There are ways for everyone to help Keep McDowell Beautiful!
