The Corn Growers Association of North Carolina will be conducting a referendum on Tuesday March 14th, 2023. 

Who is eligible to vote? All farmers who currently produce #2 yellow dent corn that is intended for livestock feed, including tenants, sharecroppers or other persons sharing in production income of corn. Voting will take place at the N.C. Cooperative Extension, McDowell County Center, which is located at 60 East Court Street in Marion during our regular business hours (8:30-5).

Currently the assessment is 1.25 cents per bushel, and the Association is proposing to change the assessment to .30% of settlement. This will bring the Association’s assessment in line with other row crop assessments across North Carolina. Two-thirds of the votes cast must be in favor of the assessment for it to pass. If it passes, the Association will use the funds to create an endowed chair position at NC State University for the Extension Cropping Specialist- Corn Position. This endowment will ensure the position will be filled with the highest qualified candidate. Additionally, any increase in revenue will cover the increased cost of conducting research which benefits all North Carolina Corn producers. The votes will be collected and tabulated by NC State University and the results published by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services.
