McDowell 4-H Young Guns Compete at State Tournament

(Updated: May 31, 2024, 10:14 a.m.)

On Saturday, April 27, the McDowell Young Guns Shooting Sports team competed at the annual North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission Hunter Education Tournament at the Lentz Range in Ellerbe, North Carolina.  Teams compete in 9 districts across the state with only the top 2 teams from each district advancing to state.  This truly is the best of the best.  McDowell 4-H was the only 4-H team to advance to state competition.  The rest of the teams were made up of school teams.

Participants competed in shotgun, archery, rifle, and a hunter skills course.  Competing for McDowell was Hunter Jimeson, Hayden Edwards, Liam Thomas, Gracie Davis, Bryson McDaniel, Garrison Dietrich, and Brady Keller.  Competition was tough, but the youth had a great day and learned a lot.

We would like to thank:
  • Our dedicated volunteers:  Terry Good, Micah Sisk, and Branson Peek
  • Our sponsors:  Friends of NRA and Epic Cycles of Black Mountain
  • Carolina West Shooting Club of Nebo for use of their great facilities
  • All the parents and youth that make this possible
Up next is our 4-H shooting season starting with a regional tournament in Polk County in August.  For more information please contact Chad Ray at 652-8104.
