You're a teen, and you know tech. Do you want to share your knowledge with older adults or others who don't have the same digital skills as you? We are looking for motivated youth to join our Digital Bridge Collaborative to help bridge the digital divide in McDowell County. Teen leaders will work directly with local older adults, providing them with the essential digital literacy tools and confidence they need to thrive in a tech-driven world.
Teens Teaching Tech: Volunteers Needed
Why Teach Tech?
This is a unique opportunity to grow your professional network, build leadership skills, and empower others. By joining our team, you will:
- Build a Resume: Gain leadership experience that looks incredible on college and career applications.
- Earn Letters of Recommendation: Work closely with adult mentors who can provide professional references for your future job or scholarship applications. You never know who you might connect with that can help you.
- Develop Career Skills: Strengthen your public speaking, teamwork, communication, and teaching abilities.
- Be an Advocate for Digital Equity: Serve your community by helping neighbors confidently navigate modern digital products and platforms.
What does a Tech Changemaker do?
We are recruiting a diverse team of teens (primarily high school or college) with a wide variety of skills and interests. You do not need to be a computer geek to join—you just need a willingness to learn and a desire to share your strengths with others!
You will participate in:
- One-on-One Training: Patiently mentoring local older adults to help them master personal devices, stay safe online, and build foundational digital skills.
- Skill-Building Workshops: Practicing, co-leading, and hosting interactive group lessons on everyday technology.
- Community Research: Helping conduct local needs assessments to figure out what tech gaps and training our community needs most.
