2024 WNC AgOptions Informational Session: Thursday, September 28, 2023

4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. at the Watauga Agricultural Conference Center

Farmers from eligible counties* are invited to attend an informational meeting about the 2024 WNC AgOptions grant program for growers and producers.

AgOptions staff will be present to discuss the program, go over the 2024 application timeline, and answer questions. The Watauga session will be presented by Dana Brown of WNC AgOptions plus Richard Boylan and Eddy Labus of N.C. Cooperative Extension. The three of them have literal decades of experience in helping farmers obtain grant assistance for farm diversification and sustainability, and they are eager to help new and returning farmers with AgOptions in 2024.

Grants of $4,000 and $8,000 are available to farmers located within a 22-county area of Western North Carolina* in 2024.

The 9/28 AgOptions Info meeting will take place at the:

Watauga County Agricultural Conference Center; 252 Poplar Grove Rd., Boone, NC 28607 at 4:30 p.m. Sign-up to attend is not necessary.

* Eligible Counties include: Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Caldwell, Clay, Cherokee, Cleveland, Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, Graham, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Macon, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Swain, Transylvania, Watauga and Yancey.

WNC AgOptions is pleased to announce the official launch of the 2024 WNC AgOptions grant application cycle.

WNC AgOptions will be offering $4000 and $8000 cost-share grants to individual farm businesses and have $228,000 available for 2024. The 2024 application and guidelines are available at the WNC AgOptions website.

Here are some important dates to keep in mind:

September 2023: Outreach to farmers

WNC AgOptions has a number of regional information sessions planned throughout WNC. The Watauga session will be held on Thursday, September 28, 2023

 October 13, 2023: Intent to apply deadline

Interested applicants must contact their County Ag Agent by this date to set up an appointment to discuss their project.

November 17, 2023: Applications due

Applications MUST be at WNC Communities office by this date. Emailed submissions are also accepted by NOON on this date.

The Mission of WNC AgOptions:

Building sustainable farming communities in our mountain region by providing

resources directly to farmers who are diversifying or expanding their operations.

The ultimate goal of WNC AgOptions is to protect mountain farmland by assisting the longevity of farm enterprises. Priority is given to farmers who have tobacco history.

Eligible Counties include: Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Caldwell, Clay, Cherokee, Cleveland, Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, Graham, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Macon, Madison, McDowell, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Swain, Transylvania, Watauga and Yancey.

and works in partnership with

N.C. Cooperative Extension and WNC Communities.
