Collapse ▲Club enrollment for 2023 is now open for our Yancey County 4-H Longshots Club!
In this club, youth learn about firearm education, safety, and participate in shooting sports activities, including shotgun, rifle and archery. Youth have the opportunity to participate in regional, district and state competitions. Open to youth ages 8-18 (as of January 1st of the current year).
Due to the overwhelming amount of interest in the club, the club is only accepting 20 members per discipline (10 juniors- ages 8-13 and 10 seniors- ages 14-18). Priority is given to youth who have previously participated in the club and regularly (60% or more) attended club practices and meetings in 2022. Families interested in joining will be added to a wait list. Once previous members join, any remaining spaces will be filled using a lottery system until capacity is reached.
For 2023, we have the following spaces open: Junior Archery, Senior Shotgun, Senior Archery and Senior Rifle. Youth interested in joining have until February 20th to complete the interest form linked below. On February 21st, the open spaces will be filled using a lottery system until capacity is reached!

Practice Schedule
Rifle
- Juniors (Ages 8-13): The First and Third Thursday’s of each month at 6:00 p.m.
- Seniors (Ages 14-18): The Second and Fourth Thursday’s of each month at 6:00 p.m.
Shotgun
- Juniors (Ages 8-13): The First and Third Thursday’s of each month at 6:00 p.m.
- Seniors (Ages 14-18): The Second and Fourth Thursday’s of each month at 6:00 p.m.
Archery
- Juniors (Ages 8-13): The First and Third Thursday’s of each month at 6:00 p.m.
- Seniors (Ages 14-18): The Second and Fourth Thursday’s of each month at 6:00 p.m.
Important Dates for Longshots
Friday, March 25th: Club open enrollment closes Saturday, February 12th from 9 a.m.-11 a.m.: Firearm Safety and Cleaning Workshop Saturday, March 26th from 9 a.m.-12 p.m.: New club member orientation Bi-weekly practices will start during the month of April
