Visit NC Farms LogoUnion County is excited to have joined the South Central Region on the Visit NC Farms app late last year. The Visit NC Farms app is a statewide program managed by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services. This app provides residents and visitors of North Carolina with the opportunity to connect with their local county farms and businesses. Any asset who offers North Carolina grown, raised, caught, and made products may be eligible to be listed. With 8 unique categories, including, farms & fisheries, pick your own, farmers markets, local food & drink, shop local, farm stays & lodging, tours & trails, and special events, everyone is bound to find what they are looking for. Or, if you are interested in just browsing the app, to find what Union County and North Carolina has to offer, you can use the map and filter features.

The Visit NC Farms app was first piloted in 2018 and has seen incredible success within the past year. With the COVID-19 pandemic, people throughout our communities were concerned about where their food was going to come from and if there would be enough to go around. Engagement on the Visit NC Farms app soared, with March 2020 alone almost doubling previous month’s user activity. Residents have the unique opportunity to connect with the farms and businesses in their communities from which they are purchasing their goods from. This ability to build these relationships is vital for the strength and growth of our community.

Currently there are a combination of over 30 producers, farmers markets, agrotourism attractions, and local shop assets listed in Union County. A  list is growing every month.

To download this app to your mobile device, search “Visit NC Farms” in either Apple App Store or Google Play. Once you’ve downloaded the app, make sure to sign up for notifications to your favorite assets so you can stay up to date on any important news or special events they may be offering.
