Brain and Heart Connected via threadAmerican Heart Month is almost over, but continuing healthy habits for heart health can stretch beyond February. One thing to think about is taking care of your mental health for healthy hearts. How does mental health connect with heart health? According to the American Heart Association, people who experience anxiety and other mental health disparities, may not make healthy choices like eating well-rounded or taking in physical activity. This can prove to be difficult as we may experience depression or feelings of sadness and loneliness during the pandemic. But remember, just as you start with making simple steps with what you eat or what activity you do, making simple changes to help with mental health is just as important. Small things you can do are take social media breaks, be honest and vocal about how you feel with people, and schedule time to meet with friends and family virtually. You can also use simple changes in activities and eating to help you with your mental health. Remember taking care of yourself is not only what you eat, do, or think. It’s the combination that can help your heart stay healthy.
