March is National Nutrition Month and the Topic this year is: “Eat Right Bite by Bite.” National Nutrition Month is organized each year to promote healthy habits through nutrition and physical activity. This year the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics has implemented a four-week plan that is designed to help you adopt healthier habits bite by bite and week by week.

Week 1: Eat a Variety of Nutritious Foods Every Day

  • Eat from each of the food groups every day: whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and protein
  • Eat a variety of different fruits and vegetables each week
  • Make your plates colorful with whole foods

Week 2: Plan Nutritious Meals Each Week

  • Create a weekly meal plan
  • Make a grocery list that includes a variety of nutritious foods
  • Pre-prep meals for work or school

Week 3: Learn Skills to Create Tasty Meals

  • Buy ingredients for healthy recipes
  • Identify delicious healthy recipes to try
  • Prep meals as a family

Week 4: Consult a Registered Dietitian

  • An RD is the best person to help you with specific eating plans, especially if you have any health concerns. Our area has many to choose from to help you eat healthier bite by bite!
