Collapse ▲The N.C. Cooperative Extension’s Keep McDowell Beautiful program will be coordinating the annual Lake James Clean Up on Saturday May 5, 2018, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. We would like to invite volunteer groups, boat captains, families, and youth-serving organizations to remove litter from Lake James and its shoreline. During the 2017 Lake James and Catawba River clean up events, volunteers from the Lake James Environmental Association, the McDowell Trails Association, Marion Moose Lodge, 4-H, and Boy Scouts in addition to residents of the Arbor on Lake James showed their commitment to beautifying their community by participating in these cleanup events. Volunteers with boats, in canoes, and paddling kayaks will meet at the Black Bear Access area on Lake James for a safety meeting at 8 a.m. To pre-register or pick up supplies early please contact Matt Burneisen, N.C. Cooperative Extension, Keep McDowell Beautiful Matt_Burneisen@ncsu.edu.
